January 30, 2022

I cannot believe that January is gone already. January was definitely not easy. Throughout all of these challenges, it is very important to take a minute to reflect on that week in 2020. When I say 'reflect' I mean 'mindfully reflect' and you know that week I am talking about. The week when we all kept asking 'Will we shut down?' And then, at lunchtime on Friday the 13th, you were asked to pack up your students' belongings with basically no direction. At that moment, still having no idea how long the kids would be home. Then, think about the next weeks: Learning the kids would stay home, processing how to get them their things, then figuring out how to teach online. It is nuts. Anytime, you are coming up against something you are not sure you can do, remember that time. Think of all you had to learn so quickly and remember, YOU DID IT!! We are still doing it. "Raise your head high and forge on ahead, knowing that YOU GOT THIS." WE got this and we are definitely stronger together!

The end of January also means that February is here. With February comes Valentine's Day💗There have been a few questions, so I wanted to clear them up. First, you can have a party/celebration. Ideally, we want to keep the time without masks in the classroom to a minimum. You may want to eat and drink outside the classroom.
Volunteers: You may have the same cleared helpers you have been using this year help with your event.
Valentines: They can bring Valentine's to share. I would pass out the Valentine's like we did last year where the bags were lined up and one person would pass out their Valentine's at a time. As always, let me know if you have questions!

PROACTIVE Winners: Please enter the student you would like to be recognized for being Proactive on the document below. Enter their name and why they were chosen. Keep the 'why' short because if it works, we will read all of them. At the least, they will be on the certificate. The Proactive Assembly is February 11 at 11:15am. Details TBD.

EL Update: Spring Summative Practice and Training Tests Reminder
NOTE this can be shared with families as well. Students can practice at home.
The specific dates are TBD. As soon as Poppi and Rori know them, we will be communicating with you.

Upcoming Donation Drive:

Coming Up This Week:

Monday, Jan. 31 @ 9:20am- Shelter in Place Drill (I will make an announcement to 'Shelter in Place.' You accept any child that is out of their room and close to yours. Let the office know if you are missing any students.' I will make an 'All Clear' announcement when we have all students accounted for.

last Week's Walk Up Song was..... Stephanie Beck!!

Here is the song again: Stephanie's Walk Up Song

This is why Stephanie chose that song: It's upbeat and fun. Reminds me of being out when I was young. :)

January 23, 2022

Anyone else?? Go ahead, have as much coffee as you need this week😂Yesterday was a rough day for the Brooks. We were stressed for the entire Packer/Niner game and it did not come out the way we hoped. That being said, sometimes it feels good to know the season is over and we don't have to stress anymore. Ha!

Science docent is coming back! Jackie Abbott will be our lead science docent. She will be contacting PLC leads to get things coordinated. We are very excited to be able to bring this back!

PLC Time on Monday: Here is the notes page for your PLC discussions tomorrow: PLC Notes

After last week, I decided it is best if you make a digital copy and share with me. There is a page for each weeks notes in this document. This week, Rori will visit grades 3-5 and I will pop into TK-2. Thank you!

TOSA Tidbits
I was in the middle of a Peloton "reset" ride and was so inspired by one of the tracks that was played! It made me think of the 5:1 praise practice from the PBIS Tier 1 Behavior presentation. Two things stand out to me.
First, YOU all deserve praise and need to be celebrated for EVERYTHING you do each day. I walk into classrooms with a different set of empty seats each day, students leaving because they don't feel well, and students who are on vacation. Bottom line...they are not here and the flow of instruction is interrupted with all the inconsistencies. Yet when I walk into your classes, there is happiness and productive learning coming from your students. This is a direct reflection of your dedication and flexibility. I praise you!
Second, I thought it would be an AWESOME walk-up song for students to start their day with. The song and its energy aligns so well with the 5:1 praise practice that many said they appreciated the reminder of in the presentation.
Here are links to the song...music video or lyrics video. Thank you for everything you do!

Math Tidbit: Honestly, I think I may have given myself hives watching these videos in one sitting. BUT it was worth it and I will watch them again. WOW! Math has come a LONG way! Never have I worked with every grade level in this way and it has been so enlightening seeing in action the importance of the progression of math concepts across every grade level. The videos help to see where our students have been and where they are going. Each video is applicable to every grade level. I'd love to hear your feedback after you have watched them!

January 16, 2022

On this Sunday, I hope that you feel as though you have truly found your gift and are giving it away daily. In reading the 'What my principal should know about me..', more than one of you said that your identity is related to teaching and you give your all to your students daily. From my perspective, I see this and feel lucky to be apart of it. This has been a rough go. I know that those of you at home are wanting more than anything to be with your students, and those of you at school, will do anything you can to help your colleagues and their students. Thank you again, to ALL of you!!
On that note, there is a quote that I have been saying a lot to myself lately:
"Drink as you pour."
We have heard it a million times, but you cannot pour from an empty cup. You must take care of yourself in order to have something to give. So please, "Drink as you pour."

PBIS Kick Off Assembly: Please show this video to you students on Monday.

last Week's Walk Up Song was..... Jessica Brooks!!

Here is her song again: Jessica's Walk up song

One thing about me is that I really have a hard time committing to things like one walk up song. Really, every cliche walk up song is a song that I love. It is really hard for me to choose only one. Last week, I heard this song and immediately thought, 'OMG Becky, this is totally my song. I love it!!' Consequently, Joelle and I have listened to it daily on the way to school! Ha!

Here is this week's Walk Up Song: Mystery Walk Up Song

Let me know who you think it is! Send me your guesses. Come on, give me a guess!! No really, guess!! How well do you know your co-workers??

Have a great week! And ENJOY tomorrow off!

Sunday, January 9

We made it through the first week back. It was a great week that flew by. At least, I thought so. Each year, these next couple months tend to feel like a long haul, but as we all know, the end of the year always arrives sooner than we expect! FYI: This is a long post!

Below, is what I put in the blog for parents. Please feel free to share my video about PBIS with your families. I did not mention the office referrals because we have some work/learning to do as a staff (myself included) before we roll it out.

This week, we formally introduced and taught out new school-wide expectations. I have included a video of me explaining our PACK rules and a video demonstrating what we expect and do not expect at school. We showed the latter video at school and the kids LOVED it! Please watch so you can understand what the kids are expected to do at school and support it at home. Thank you!

Video: What is PBIS?

Video: The PACK Way

Absences: As we all know, we have had several kids out and this is just the beginning. Please put some things on OTUS, or online, for kids to access while they are out. Try to have some things ready to go just to make your life easier. Maybe put some extra packets together as you plan for each week. You are going to have several kids out for long periods of time. We want to keep the kids as prepared as possible. Yes, I know. That also requires them to work while out. Remember, we can only control what we can control.

Related to that, out iReady diagnostic window is open right now. If you are giving the diagnostic, do your best to have them complete the diagnostic while at school. Also, do not wait until the last minute to start the diagnostic. (I know that you know that.) If this will not work for some reason, let me know.

PLC Meetings:

Rori and I will be coming to PLC meetings tomorrow. Rori will attend TK-2 and I will attend 3-5. We will alternate each week.

Please make one copy and use this document each week at your PLC meetings: PLC Notes

PBIS Tier 1 Behavior PD
Thank you for taking the time to complete the feedback from  the PBIS Tier 1 Behavior PD. If you haven't had a chance to complete the quick form, here is the link: Tier 1: Behavior Feedback

EL Update
  • Thank you to the teachers who completed their RFEP Monitoring forms in ELlevation! All of our forms have been submitted for the year.
  • RFEP Update: We had 6 students successfully RFEP this year! That is a huge accomplishment considering everything.
  • Spring ELPAC: the window for the ELPAC is opening February 2. The window to test will run through April 15 so we are finished prior to CAASPP. Our specific window for testing is TBD. This is a GREAT time to familiarize your EL students with the online practice ELPAC tests. Please share with your families the link to ELPAC practice tests. You can also use designated EL time in class to familiarize your EL students with the ELPAC. This is a helpful tool that can relieve some anxiety, practice test taking strategies and familiarize students with the format of the test. ELPAC Practice & Training Tests
  • If you would like me to work with your EL students on the practice and training tests, please add your name to my schedule. My IA Jenn can also be of assistance in this area. RWright/IA Jenn TOSA Schedule

last Week's Walk Up Song was..... Sara Franco!!

Here is her song again: Sara's Walk up song

The second this song starts I feel HAPPY! It reminds me of good times with my friends, my family, and summer memories! People close to me know this is "my song" and they send me texts of bands playing Wagon Wheel when they are on vacation because it makes them think of me.

Here is this week's Walk Up Song:

2. Girls On The Run
COACHING HELP NEEDED - Stoneridge 2022 Girls on The Run Team
This is an excellent opportunity to lead our school's team for girls in 3rd - 5th grade. PTC wants to thank Jennifer Hilbert Speak, 5th grader Elizabeth's Mom, for her incredible dedication and coaching of our school's team over the last six years. We appreciate you Jennifer and your support of this program!
We are in search for two new coaches ASAP to register & build this years team. The time commitment is twice a week for 90 mins after school. Everything the coaches need is provided including all the lessons. Jennifer stated you don't need to be a runner to coach, it's an opportunity to build self-empowerment and growth for the girls on the team.
Registration opens on January 24th and season starts on January 28th. If we don't get any volunteer help, this program that helps inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun running based curriculum will be canceled.
Please PM PTC or the front office if interested.
Thank you!!

4. Please visit our Facebook & Instagram pages for current events and weekly communications of what's happening on campus and PTC.

Have an awesome week!

January 2, 2022

Welcome Back!! Well, here we go. Let's get ready for what 2022 has to bring. After experiencing 2020 and 2021, I think this is a good time to remind ourselves that we can't control everything that comes our way but we can control our outlook and our response. I know you are all really good at this, but once again, I  needed a reminder that I can only control what I can control and thought maybe you could use the reminder as well. I have no doubt each and every one of us will accomplish great things in 2022. Let's do this!

See you tomorrow morning in the MP. The heater will be on high and I will have some breakfast treats there for you.

last Week's Walk Up Song was..... Abby Wilkinson!!

This is why she chose that song: It has good beat, I love beer, Duh! it's Thomas Rhett!, and it reminds me that we need to breath with each problem we face.
