Sunday, March 26

Just a good reminder for each of us. I know I often find myself thinking 'I will be happy when...' and then I reach that and think 'I will be happy when...' As soon as I realize I am doing this, I remind myself to stop the cycle and to be happy NOW! One of the things that helps me with this is a gratitude journal. Unfortunately, that is one of the first things that gets neglected when I get busy. Quite frankly, that should be my priority because it really shifts my thinking to look for the positive in every situation. Which leads to another of my flaws. I tell myself I can't possibly start now, I have to wait until the right day. I wait until a Monday, the first of the month, or the first of the year. Do you do that too? You convince yourself a new start needs to align with some other 'start.' Bologna! Do those things now! Enjoy the good right now and restart something you have let go, NOW!!

Speaking of thankful, a quick update on my dad. He is being released from the hospital today. This whole ordeal he has been through has been unbelievable from beginning to end. The onset was as incredible as the recovery. There were a few days where we did not think he was going to make it, but he is going to be OK. We are so thankful. And thank you to all of you for your thoughts and prayers.

EL Update
  • summative ELPAC testing windowApril 12-19 examiners will either call for your students or pick them up. I do not provide specific times for them to pull your students.
  • ELPAC groupings: examiners test all TK-2 students one on one for all domains. For 3-5, reading, writing, and listening may be pulled as a group and speaking is one on one.
  • Practice Tests: have your EL students practice for the summative ELPAC: ELPAC Info/Practice and ELPAC Warm-Ups If you have shared the practice links with your families yet, this is a great time to share them.
  • links to all resources can be found under the "EL Resources" tab in the Stoneridge blog
  • Newcomers-The First 6 Weeks: I am working on a support resource for teachers to give Tier 2 supports for our newcomers with emerging English acquisition. This will have a condensed version of all the amazing resources Jennie has organized for teachers to use. Stay tuned...I will reach out to you soon if you have a "newer" to Stoneridge newcomer to support.
  • RFEP recognition: at next week's PACK meeting Jessica and I will be recognizing all of our students who were reclassified this year. It is a huge accomplishment to meet all the requirements to reclassify even if the student says they don't really speak another language.  I will be reaching out to invite the parents and will cc you on the email as well.
  • Please Review: please open and review this ELPAC schedule document by March 31st.  Email me if anything is incorrect:
    1. scroll to find your grade level and name
    2. double check to make sure I have included all of your EL students that are listed in ellevation. RFEP and IFEP students are not included on this list, only current EL students.
    3. double check your prep, library and recess times.
    4. TK and Kinder: please send me your recess schedule so I can update that if needed.
Thank you so much for your help with this! The examiners love coming to Stoneridge to assess because the process is smooth and  students and teachers are flexible and friendly. You rock!

Sunday, March 19

Happy Sunday! I know you all know that life can take a turn at any moment, and when it does, we do a lot of reflecting. My dad getting sick so suddenly and not knowing what is causing it, or how to stop it, has been excruciating. However, in all of this, we are all focusing on the positives because that is what my dad taught us to do. He is still here and still coherent. While on a ventilator, he writes notes and flips my brother off daily. We have decided 'the bird count' is a good measure of how he is doing. At this moment, he seems to be making positive progress and that is the best news!!
I do want to share a little about my dad because, like I said, moments like these make you think about all of the things. My dad, Greg, is one of the most selfless, caring people you will ever meet. He takes everyone in and helps them however he can. We have the biggest family you have ever seen! And because of how he gives and cares, the entire town of Pleasanton has been affected by his critical illness. It is like a full time job for my mom to keep everyone updated. Actually, that reminds me of a funny story. One of my friends called me while I was next to him at the hospital and asked how she could help. She asked if she could Door Dash or something. I said, 'Thank you so much, but my dad was the quasi-mayor of Pleasanton and we have a ton of support.' As soon as I hung up the phone, my dad spelled with his finger 'not was but is.' Saying he wasn't the mayor, but still is the mayor. He is still there! And last night, he was trying to set up my sister with the male night nurse. In all of this, we have had several laughs and are very hopeful.

All of this to say, thank you to all of you. The biggest THANK YOU to Rori who has made it so easy for me to be here and be present. I know I don't have to worry. I also know it is more than just her. Thank you all for your support and for doing what you do. I will be back tomorrow but will likely be gone every couple of days so I can spend some time with my dad.

Wondering what the red circles are that have been sprinkled throughout campus? These are for our PBIS driveway signs and interior walkway signs. They will have a corresponding label painted on them so our amazing safety patrol and leadership students know where to place what sign.

Sunday, March 12

Happy Rainy Sunday! The rain makes life interesting, but we need every drop of water we can get. I know that sometimes it is difficult, but try to find the positives amid the storm. Literally and figuratively.

PD Schedule: Please meet in the staff room at 8am. We will start with some fun activities with Christi, so wear your comfy clothes! Then, back to the staff room for some tasks as a PLC. You will be looking at the California Dashboard information about Stoneridge and answering some questions. We will end with a quick discussion about the essential standard pacing guides and then you will be on your way. I know your mind will be on preparing for Open House, so I will be mindful of your time.

Absence Reporting: I let parents know, or rather, I reminded them that they need to let the office know when their child is absent. I know that some parents let you know, which is great, but if you could reply to them and say, 'Be sure to let the office know too.' I think that will help the process. Thank you!

Teacher Who Make A Difference: Please share your nominations for Teacher Who Make A Difference. Which of your colleagues would you like to recognize for the amazing work they do? Send their name to me with a reason why,
Subscriptions and Wishes: Not quite these subscriptions, but I wanted to remind you to let me now what subscriptions you would like to renew. We should be able to get them taken care of this year. Please add your wishes to this document. I am looking into things like SIPPS readers iReady FOCUS intervention. Add them here:

EL Update: ELPAC Practice Tests and Info Links
Our Summative ELPAC testing dates are: April 17-19. It's a great time to start preparing your EL students for the test and below you will find a few links to help. The time spent practicing is considered designated EL minutes since these practice questions are standards based. We'll play around with these links a little bit on Monday.
1.This is the site we have shared in the past. It will mirror the format of the test but it is a bit clunky. I still wanted to make it available to you.
2. This is a nice quick reference link to a sample question for each domain. This would be a good resource to share with the parents of your EL students.
3. This is new to us this year. It includes a slide presentation and daily lessons broken down by month.
Please reach out if you have any questions.

EL Resources: An EL Resources tab has been added to the blog! There is a lot of helpful information.

Sunday, March 5

Happy Sunday! I saw this quote and thought it was too great not to share. I love how it shifts our thinking of what humility is. I also think it is a reminder that we each have a unique role at home and at work, but it is important to be open to new ideas and growth. We do this everyday, but I personally love it when a quote knocks it out of the park!

Attendance update: I have been and will continue to address attendance issues with the families of students with several absences and tardies. I do encourage you to reach out to families and let them know how much you love to have their child in class and that missing school is affecting their child's learning. I added a piece in Timberwolf TV and will add more in upcoming episodes.
