Sunday, April 30

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! The goal of this week is to give your parents the opportunity to show you how much they love you and appreciate you. I know that most of you do not like a lot of attention, but take it in and soak it up. You work tirelessly to support your students and their parents recognize how much you do. This week, focus on all of the wonderful things that happen. Don't let the small, negative things get to you. That is a tall task, I know. But make this a wonderful week!💝
See below for all of the special things the PTC has planned. They are also going to cover your before and after school duties!

Coffee!! I hope you will be able to take advantage of this special coffee offer! Make a date with someone and take advantage! RCSD has teamed up with two locally-owned coffee houses to celebrate! Fourscore Coffee House at 325 Lincoln Street and Bloom Coffee at 1485 Eureka Road will offer buy one, get one free espresso drinks for all RCSD staff. All week long, Monday through Friday, Fourscore and Bloom will be thanking RCSD staff with this exclusive BOGO deal - all you have to do is show your staff ID!

CAASPP Testing: Testing begins this week! Teachers grades 3-5, see your email from Nichol with updates and important information.

TOSA Tidbits

I came across this site that has compiled some great resources together with digital slide decks of various number talks. Just had to share...

EL Update
Its time for our Spring RFEP Monitoring forms to be completed by May 11. Not everyone has students who need to be monitored. An email was sent to specific teachers on April 27 to let you know that Ellevation will be sending you a notice to complete this. This is different from the EL monitoring you completed. These monitoring forms are for students who have reclassified.

PBIS Reminder
If you haven't yet, please talk with your students about our PBIS walkthrough and refresh their memory on what our "PACK expectations". Continue to pass out the PACK Passes, give specific feedback on why they are receiving it, and consider those students who may not be receiving PACK pass recognition.

Did you know... Rori Wright saw a picture of her husband when she was 15 and said to her best friend, “Who’s this guy? I’m going to marry him.” Together for 35 years, married for 27.

Did you know one of our staff member's mom was a nun before she met her dad? Who is it?

Sunday, April 23

I hope this resonates with everyone of you because it definitely represents all of you. I know you give your all each day to make a difference in the lives of each of your students. I also know that you feel successful when they feel successful. You are a gift to your students and they are lucky to have you.

CAASPP Testing:

CAASPP testing is here! 5th grade teachers will be starting their CAST science test next week April 24-28 and then 3rd, 4th, and 5th will be doing their ELA and Math tests from May 1-12th.

3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade- Please make sure you complete at least one practice test to get students familiarized with the testing format and tools. If you notice anything isn't working on the Chromebook, please swap it out with Candi ASAP. I would also encourage families to send in headphones during testing (preferably the plug in kind).

TK-2nd Grade- Remember, you are our hype squad! If you haven't already, please start planning out your poster for your upper grade class and get in contact with the upper grade teacher so you can get the poster delivered before testing starts. If you want to do anything else in addition to the poster, that is up to you! Thanks for doing this! :)

TOSA Tidbits:

PBIS Recognition Walkthrough
May 3 from 8-10 am is our PBIS Tier 1 walkthrough with Julie Murdaugh. This is part of the application process to receive silver recognition for tier 1 practices. Silver is the highest we can get in tier 1. Please take some time to let your students about the walkthrough and what to expect.
We have all been working so hard on implementing PBIS for the past few years. Everyone is doing such a great job! Thank you!
If you have any questions please reach out to anyone on the tier 1 team: Jessica, Rori, Jen Hardy, Candice, Jen Boyd and Nichol.

TOSA Support: With the end of the year quickly approaching, I'm going to change my schedule for the remainder of the year. Attached you will find a weekly schedule (one table for each week) where you can sign up if you'd like me to come to your classroom. The document has some ideas of what I could do or you can let me know if there is something different you have in mind.

Don't feel like you have to let go of the time I am currently coming to your class, just add your name back in those slots each week that it works for you. I have some more info on the sign-up sheet that might make more sense. :/

EL Reminder
The EL monitoring forms are due on April 28th. A reminder to complete the forms will be sent by Ellevation on Monday if you have forms to complete.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

One more thing: ALL summative ELPAC testing is complete! 🎉 The examiners were able to test all of our students in the time we were scheduled to have them at our site. Thank you again for your daily hard work with the students, preparing them for the test so they know what to expect, and for your flexibility with having them in and out throughout the week.

Keeping a related theme, did you know one of our staff members saw a picture of her husband when she was 15 and said to her best friend, “Who’s this guy? I’m going to marry him.” Together for 35 years, married for 27.

Sunday, April 16

Happy Sunday! Please repeat the above quote three times. Ok, now breath. Spring is tough for so many reasons. First, I know that right after Spring Break 99.9% of you were counting how many days of school are left in the school year. Not because you are counting down but because you are trying to fit in all of the things you have left to do. I have news for you, you may not get it all in. Focus on quality over quantity and the time you have with those awesome kids in front of you.

Spring is also a busy time for many families as almost every sport seems to be a spring sport. Trying to get all of your work done while trying to take care of your family's needs feels like a lot.

Let me tell you, this is 100% me right now. Know that you are not alone and lean on those around you. We will get through this season together.

i-Ready Window 3

i-Ready Window 3 begins April 17th and ends May 26th. Window 3 is required for 2nd-grade students and is optional for 3rd-8th grade students.

Join us for the last skate night for the school year! It will be this Wednesday April 19 from 5:30-7:30!

Walking Challenge Winner!!  The ticket has been drawn and the participation winner for the walking challenge is Kim Beauvais!! Yay, Kim! Thank you to all of you who participated in the challenge and thank you to Candice for keeping track of the numbers each week.

Reminders and Updates:

Reminder: Please give your field trip lunch count directly to Ana (in the kitchen not her box) TWO weeks prior to your field trip.  Thank you!

Did you know... Kirsten Ansbach got second place in a home run derby at the Softball World Series when she was 16. She turned down all of her scholarship offers though to experience life without softball since she played from 4 to 18 years old. 🥎

Here is a double duty 'Did you know?' Did you know one of our staff members eloped to Vegas with her husband after knowing him only 4 months. It's been 24 years now. And another of our staff members got engaged 6 weeks after meeting her future husband? Are there any more of you that could be added to this list? Let me know.

What makes you unique??: I am almost through my list, so feel free to add another or if you haven't already, please add an interesting fact here: Unique Fact

Monday, April 10

Hello Everyone! I hope you had a wonderful break that left you feeling recharged and ready to go! My break started with a detour as our puppy Millie had to have emergency surgery on Monday. She ate something she was not supposed to and it had to be removed surgically. That was not how I wanted to start break but I am thankful she is OK. I am also thankful it happened when it did. It allowed us to be home with her when we really needed to. That being said, I would have rather gone to Disneyland for the amount of money that little surprise costed us. But, such is life, right?

We are now entering the part of the year that seems to fly by and the kids get a little crazy! We know it is coming, so let's take it on as prepared as possible. This week after break is a great time to reteach the PBIS expectations. There is a tab on the BLOG with everything you need. Also, choose something your grade level wants to focus on and reinforce it like crazy! We have been able to change the behavior in the lunchroom by choosing something we want to work on and being intentional with our rewards. It is pretty incredible to watch happen right in from of us!

Tomorrow is out PD day. See below for information and locations:
