Sunday, March 12

Happy Rainy Sunday! The rain makes life interesting, but we need every drop of water we can get. I know that sometimes it is difficult, but try to find the positives amid the storm. Literally and figuratively.

PD Schedule: Please meet in the staff room at 8am. We will start with some fun activities with Christi, so wear your comfy clothes! Then, back to the staff room for some tasks as a PLC. You will be looking at the California Dashboard information about Stoneridge and answering some questions. We will end with a quick discussion about the essential standard pacing guides and then you will be on your way. I know your mind will be on preparing for Open House, so I will be mindful of your time.

Absence Reporting: I let parents know, or rather, I reminded them that they need to let the office know when their child is absent. I know that some parents let you know, which is great, but if you could reply to them and say, 'Be sure to let the office know too.' I think that will help the process. Thank you!

Teacher Who Make A Difference: Please share your nominations for Teacher Who Make A Difference. Which of your colleagues would you like to recognize for the amazing work they do? Send their name to me with a reason why,
Subscriptions and Wishes: Not quite these subscriptions, but I wanted to remind you to let me now what subscriptions you would like to renew. We should be able to get them taken care of this year. Please add your wishes to this document. I am looking into things like SIPPS readers iReady FOCUS intervention. Add them here:
Funding Wishes

EL Update: ELPAC Practice Tests and Info Links
Our Summative ELPAC testing dates are: April 17-19. It's a great time to start preparing your EL students for the test and below you will find a few links to help. The time spent practicing is considered designated EL minutes since these practice questions are standards based. We'll play around with these links a little bit on Monday.
1.This is the site we have shared in the past. It will mirror the format of the test but it is a bit clunky. I still wanted to make it available to you.
2. This is a nice quick reference link to a sample question for each domain. This would be a good resource to share with the parents of your EL students.
3. This is new to us this year. It includes a slide presentation and daily lessons broken down by month.
Please reach out if you have any questions.

EL Resources: An EL Resources tab has been added to the blog! There is a lot of helpful information.

Sunday, March 5

Happy Sunday! I saw this quote and thought it was too great not to share. I love how it shifts our thinking of what humility is. I also think it is a reminder that we each have a unique role at home and at work, but it is important to be open to new ideas and growth. We do this everyday, but I personally love it when a quote knocks it out of the park!

Attendance update: I have been and will continue to address attendance issues with the families of students with several absences and tardies. I do encourage you to reach out to families and let them know how much you love to have their child in class and that missing school is affecting their child's learning. I added a piece in Timberwolf TV and will add more in upcoming episodes.

Sunday, February 26

March rolls in this week! Crazy! And it rolls in cold and wet. This is that stretch before Spring Break that tends to feel long, but remember, after Spring Break, the end of the year activities start happening. Take advantage of these last weeks before the crazy begins!

Drill Feedback: you for participating in the drill this week. I have to give huge props to Sarah and her class. Their blinds are not fixed yet, and her class was very hard to see. I try not to have too many Intruder Drills during the year because I know it makes the kids nervous and can be a lot to process. That being said, we do want to practice, so we are prepared, if needed. Please fill out the form below with any issues you can across. Thank you!

Walking challenge: We are going to have a staff walking challenge for the month of March. The person with the most steps at the end of each week will get a prize. Also, for every 50,000 steps you hit, you will get a raffle ticket for a prize at the end of the challenge. Please add your name to the google doc below. This is the document where you will also add your step counts each day. I know you all put in a ton of steps each day, let's have some fun with it! Let me know if you have questions.

Walking Challenge Participation and Tracking

Blog Tabs: I have been adding tabs to our blog based on feedback. Rori and I are going to put together some EL resources and add a tab for that. Are there any other things you feel like you have to go looking for that would be helpful to have on the blog? Let me know.

March Events: Here are the March events on our PTC calendar.

I love this quote so much. It is the time of year when we get to recognize one of our colleagues- One of our colleagues who may be uncomfortable with recognition because they don't care about becoming a somebody; They serve anybody and love everybody. Who is that person?  Please share that person with me and send me your nominations for the Teacher Who Makes a Difference at Stoneridge. Please email your nomination to me with a reason why you think they are deserving of this award.

February 12, 2023

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! It is a little less fun without the Niners in it. (Or the Packers, for that sake!) That being said, I have spent many years wishing we had the day after the Super Bowl off and it is finally happening!! Have fun today and relax tomorrow.

The Sweetheart Dance was so much fun. The kids got all dressed up and had so much fun dancing with their friends. At the end of the night, the kids took over the stage and danced. The parents just smiled and videoed. It was too cute. To end the evening, a student requested we do the Timberwolf Chant. So, I led the chant with all the kids doing it on stage. It seriously made my day. I was one proud principal💗

Parent Info Night: We will have parent info night this Wednesday at 6pm, in the library. In addition to calming the fears of new kindergarten parents, the goal of the evening is to get all parents excited about their children's future at Stoneridge. For example, we want the 4th grade parents excited about what is to come in 5th grade. Darren Brown will also be there to talk about middle school. There is a bubble right now that is worried about sending their kids to middle school in 6th grade. We want to build their confidence and get them excited.

Mark you calendars

Lunch Challenge!
It was SO SO much fun setting the tables for the winning classes. There was so much fun energy among all the students. The classes that won LOVED their special table set up and all the other students were so curious, excited and motivated to get more points. Some students offered up ideas for future incentives which I love. I'm going to create a good old fashioned idea box where students can share their ideas.
Our next challenge winners will celebrate on Friday, February 24th since the next two weeks are short weeks. Enjoy the photo collage! They sure were cute.

Did you know... Robin Learn had goats at her dad's house and they had to milk them every day at 5 and 5.

February 5, 2023

Happy Sunday and Happy February💗 I had a nostalgic weekend. I got to watch my sister play water polo with her Oakland masters team at a UC Davis tournament. It was extra fun because she was playing against many college club water polo teams including the Davis team she played for. Their team strongly beat everyone they played and she remembers getting beat by the masters teams at that same tournament years ago. It was so fun to be back at UC Davis, drive around the town and eat lunch at Dos. (IYKYK) Both my sister and I went to Davis, so it was special to be there together. Have you visited your college town lately?
This weekend also marks the last weekend before the Brooks' hit their crazy sports season which goes from now until December! Here we go!!
Jesse Bennett comes this Thursday! As I know many of you have, share the info about her books. She is giving 50% of all books sold back to Stoneridge. There is a link on stoneridgeshop.com

Friday is our Sweetheart Dance. It is from 5:30-7pm. The tickets are available on stoneridgeshop.com

TOSA Tidbits:

EL Update

We have changed the dates for our ELPAC testing when there aren't as many enriching activities buzzing about campus. Our new dates are April 12-19. In the next couple weeks, I will send out links to the practice tests to prepare students for what to expect. I feel better about these dates and appreciate all your flexibility when we met during PLCs last week to try to make the original dates work.

Lunch Count and School Milk: Lunch count is super important right now. Food services is watching our numbers closely and we ran out of food two times last week. Ana always adds a few meals to the count she gets each day, but even that was not enough. We are telling students not to get a lunch if they did not order one, but we have no way of knowing. If you could please reinforce this with them, that would be wonderful. Thank you!

Lunch Count:
  • Please take lunch count for the different choices offered each day. Miss Ana prepares the food for the students each day based on these numbers. She needs to limit the number of extras she makes. This is especially important on those days with popular items like breakfast as lunch, chicken nuggets, tacos and frozen yogurt days. A reminder to students to only take a school lunch if they have ordered one and to take what they chose in the morning, would be very helpful.
Milk:
  • The district has changed the system for students receiving milk if they brought a lunch from home. Please share this with your students: Students with a home lunch can still get milk. They need to check out with Miss Kathy so she can document how much milk we are going through. They will also be encouraged to take 2 items from the salad bar.

Did you know... Ally Simmons' first cousin is Sara Barreilles!! Wow! So cool. I had quite a few of you know that.

Did you know one of our staff members had goats at her dad's house and they had to milk them every day at 5 and 5.
